The cabin is about a half mile from a town road.  You don't have to have a 4-wheel drive to get to the cabin. However, having either a vehicle with good clearance or a driver with some experience on class 4 roads is wise.  For example, pick-ups or SUV's (we have a Honda CRV) have no trouble, but we did have friends with a minivan scrape on exposed bedrock (no apparent damage done, but something you'll want to consider if you have a low-riding car or van).  You can drive right up to the cabin.

Although the pond is very secluded, it is only a 10 minute drive from the town of Newport. Newport is a large town by Vermont standards and is a nice place to explore because it sits right on the shores of Lake Memphremagog.  Newport has grocery stores, restaurants (formal and casual), boat rentals, a movie theatre and a good farmer's market on Thursdays.

There are many hikes in the area

Being in the Northeast Kingdom means almost endless opportunities for classic Vermont out door fun: hiking, fishing, swimming, boating.  There are many recreational options just over the boarder in Canada too. There is a large zoo and a water park that make fun day trips. The city of Montreal is about a 2 hour drive away.
